Just a quickie to let you know that I am quite some way through the re-design of this site.

There is going to be some big changes around here soon as I am bored of the current design already (launched mid-January 2009) and want to incorporate some new features into the site – in-fact I want to include a whole new area that I have already written some content for, with a view to launching a second new area of the site in the future.

The new design will allow me to integrate both new areas when they are ready and a few other bell and whistles I have planned! Hopefully it will make the site easier to navigate and quicker to find relevant content for visitors.

So drop-by again soon to check out the new design – I hope (work allowing!) that I will be launching it in the next couple of weeks!

4 years old - my, what a big boy you are now!!

No related posts.

Photoshop Ninja is 4 years old today! I can’t believe I’ve been working on this site for that long! For those of you that don’t know, my name is Jonny and I’m a freelance graphic designer based in the West Midlands area of the UK. I am the sole creator and author of Photoshop Ninja.
I have been using Photoshop for well over a decade now, and use it for many different tasks including retouching, web design, creative print design, even elements in some animation jobs, amongst other things! I design for a range of different clients, from well know worldwide brands to smaller businesses. I also have extensive college lecturing experience – with well over 200 full lectures taken by myself in graphic design, multimedia, and of-course the Adobe Creative Suite! In addition to this I also have run numerous formal training sessions with professionals on InDesign and Photoshop.

I enjoy writing and although I am concerned about my capacity to do this I am considering writing a book (does the world really need another Photoshop book?!). I have worked with a number of large publishers to help them assess book proposals and Photoshop Ninja has been featured in Photoshop Creative magazine a couple of times in the UK and once in Sweden!

Photoshop Ninja began as a way to share tips and tricks amongst colleagues and friends in the various design studios I work in. It has since grown into a large resource of information for Photoshop users of many different levels and skill-sets – be it photographers, designers or even just casual users. The site currently gets an average of around 10,000 visitors a month and is steadily growing.

From launch this site has been run on the WordPress platform, which I use as a content management system (no, its not just a blog!) on this site and for many others I develop for clients. I often use this site as a testbed for my coding development, so don’t worry if occasionally look a bit strange when you visit – it’s probably a bit of code I’m working on! WordPress is a fantastic publishing platform that I strongly recommend you take a look at if you need a CMS. Everyone has their favourite CMS platforms – WordPress is mine!

To celebrate I am creating 14 days of new content on the site new content very day for 14 days basically, which started 1 week ago and will continue for another week. I am also launching a new site area at the end of the celebrations and am working on a new design for the whole site – but I’m not sure if I will have the time to finish this for next week… so you may have to wait for that for a little longer!

Well, enjoy the site and I hope you learn lots of new stuff about Photoshop. It’s one of the most enjoyable and rewarding design applications to use. Although it might seem a bit tough to learn with so man menus and options, the time you invest will reward you many times over with the amazing results you can achieve. There is usually more than one way to execute a task in Photoshop – I like to think that I’m sharing with you the best way… you can become a Photoshop Ninja too!

5 days to go before celebrations begin - and a special bonus for Twitter followers!

No related posts.

To celebrate the forth birthday of Photoshop Ninja on the 25th of April 2009 I’m going to be publishing new content every day for 14 days – starting 7 days before on 18th of April 2009. The birthday will be slap bang in the middle, with 1 more week of content published after.

There’s some big changes on their way too – a whole new section will open on the birthday, and if I have time I may even be launching a new design… but no promises! I’ve become a-little tired of this new design launched in January and I either need to fix the Internet Explorer CSS rendering problems… or redesign. I have realised there are a few structure changes in the layout I’d like to try out, so drop by again soon and see for yourself!

Spread the word – lots of free goodies on their way for Photoshop. Oh and a little birdie told me those people following Photoshop Ninja on Twitter may even get a special little birthday bonus, so watch out during the birthday period for a special personal message from Photoshop Ninja!

Lots of new content on it's way to celebrate, starts 7 days before the birthday!

This website will be four years old on the 25th of April 2009, I’ve decided to make it a bit more special this year by publishing new content every day for 14 days – starting 7 days before on 18th of April 2009. The birthday will be slap bang in the middle, with 1 more week of content published after.

In addition to this there will be some changes to this website, including a secret new area that will be launched to coincide with the birthday day on the 25th. I think as time goes on and content builds up in it, a-lot of people will find it useful – but you’ll have to wait and see!

This is a-little unusual for me as I am so busy with my paid work as a freelance graphic designer and web developer. I usually only manage to publish around once or twice a week at very most – so I hope you like all the stuff I’ve got planned!

I have been working on so many projects latley, but regular visitors will have now got used to the site’s new design launched mid-January. I have been tweeking it here and there since launch (front page is much clearer now and archives work a treat!) but still have more planned! I know I have a bunch of problems in IE, which is a little embarrassing for a web developer! I am so busy with my paid work (which keeps a roof over my head, and keeps my girlfriend happy!) that I have only partially fixed some of this. I will be rolling out fixes for that in the very near future. In the meantime, if you are still using Internet Explorer (only 20%ish now!) I urge you to browse much faster and more securley with a proper Internet browser like Firefox!

For those of you who follow Photoshop Ninja on Twitter – I realised when I was working on the archive page coding that I had previously got my dates mixed up of when Photoshop Ninja was launched. It was officially 25th April 2005, appologies for previous birthday tweets!
