It seems the rumor mill is really starting to pick up pace as we approach the launch of Photoshop CS3 – lets have a little look at what I have read around the Internet…
- Vanishing point 2
New perspective based editing
- More advanced HDRI support
More advanced support for HDRI images including layer support.
- Advanced measuring tools
Establish scale, measure distances.
- New rotoscoping features
Advanced animation development with ability to import Quicktime video and image sequences and paint frames over time with the new advanced animation palette
- 3D file support
Ability to open, rotate and place 3D objects in their native file formats such as Maya, 3DMAX and Acrobat as a smart object. Ability to edit textures in Photoshop and reapply to the 3D model.
- Rotating Canvas
Not sure about this one, but sounds interesting!
- HUGE speed increases on Intel based Macs
Seems like early speed comparison tests are reaping huge speed increases on Intel based Macs compared to PPC based Macs. Obviously this is exciting news, but it must be remembered that tests have only been performed on the Beta version of CS3, so performance figures must be taken with a pinch of salt.
All of this exciting news and the promised ‘live filters’ for non-destructive workflow (surely the biggest innovation in Photoshop since layer effects) all combine into a very exciting future for Photoshop users… hopefully Adobe won’t keep us waiting long!
The rumored release date is sometime in the second quarter of 2007.
