Automatically highlighting text entry fields after you hit return

You often find yourself typing figures into various places in Photoshop, like the zoom level at the bottom left of the window, opacity in the layers palette and type size in the various type dialogs. You double click the figure (quicker than clicking and highlighting!), type in a figure, hit return… and repeat this process as many times as required… which is slow!

I recently discovered this tip by accident – it’s a really simple little one, but certainly one of my favorites! Instead of hitting return after entering the figure, hold down shift and then hit return… it enters the figure where appropriate AND ALSO highlights the new figure to be replaced with a new typed figure, nice!

Also, don’t forget as posted in a previous tip, once that figure is highlighted you can almost always just use the up and down cursor keys to adjust the figure up and down in fine increments, or hold down shift and use the up and down keys to alter the figure in larger increments. This combination of shortcuts can REALLY speed up the process of fine tuning your Photoshop work and allow you to keep an eye on your image to see how your adjustments are effecting your composition rather than keep casting your eyes back to the dialogue area.
