Revealing advanced layer options when you create a new layer
This ones another little known tip - even for expert Photoshop users! Did you know that you can bring up advanced layer options when you create a new layer… no, well read on and find out more!
I find it really annoying sometimes that when I create a new layer there is no quick way to set the layer colour, amongst other things. Well, there is a little shortcut you can use when you create a new layer to reveal a number of useful options.
Simply hold down Alt and click on the new layer icon at the bottom of the layers palette! It will reveal a dialogue box where you can set the name of the layer, set an option to use previous layer as a clipping mask, set the colour of the layer and also the layer blending mode and opacity. Even if you just use this to name you layer, it’s quicker than creating a new layer and then clicking on the name to rename it.
